A forest is not a patch.
It is a building.
Silva non pars est.
Aedificium est.

It started with opening a window and reading one message. So basic — and I had never thought it before. If understanding a forest scores 1 to 10, most of us are still at 1. This station takes the other nine floors apart and hands them to you to play with. Coepit fenestra aperta et uno nuntio lecto. Res simplex — numquam tamen cogitata. Si silvam scire decem gradus habet, plerique in primo manemus. Haec statio novem reliquos dissolvit, ut ludas.

“Even if you walk into a forest, you still might not see it.” “Etiam si silvam intras, fortasse non vides.”

Fly the transect with a bird. Ride the canopy. Follow a root down until it touches the Wood Wide Web. Sit in a cave with an underground river, or wait out a fire. The door does not explain anything — it simply opens somewhere you were not. Cum ave vola. Cum corona spira. Radicem sequere donec Telam Ligneam tangas.

The Mother Tree's Ledger Tabulae Matris Arboris

One old Douglas-fir was found linked to forty-seven neighbours at once, pushing carbon downhill to the seedlings standing in its shade. Abies vetus quadraginta septem vicinis simul nexa inventa est, carbonem plantulis in umbra sua stantibus mittens.

Hi — who is quietly feeding the smallest thing on your street? Salve — quis in vico tuo minimum tacite nutrit?

Before you press it, you have no idea what is behind. That is the whole game. There is no last card. Antequam premis, quid post ianuam sit nescis. Hic totus ludus est. Ultima charta non est.

A forest is mostly traffic. Silva maxime commeatus est.

C₆H₁₂O₆ ↓ ↑ N · P · H₂O → to the neighbour hyphae 10³ m / g soil

Sugar goes down, minerals and water come up, and some of it keeps travelling sideways into a neighbour that never made it. Keep zooming: molecules, atoms, a photon arriving after eight minutes of empty space. Nature has been moving matter like this for hundreds of millions of years, and it has never once sent an invoice.

Simple, missing topics are the best ones: how do we get to know a forest, generation after generation, with the lowest possible impact — watching it, protecting it, and taking some life force back? Write the topic you would pilot in one week. Small is allowed. Strange is encouraged. Station
Wood Wide Web Station — an exploration game that disassembles a forest into playable layers.
Core claim
A forest is not a flat patch of trees; it is a multi-storey, multi-scale system: canopy +38 m → forest floor 0 m → mycorrhizal network −1.2 m → groundwater and caves −40 m → molecules and quanta 10⁻¹⁰ m.
Mechanic
Pick a lens (wing, crown, root, water, stone, fire, keeper), press the magic door, receive one randomly drawn fragment plus one open question. No syllabus, no ending.
Open question
How can we come to know, watch and protect a forest across generations with the lowest possible impact — and gain life force in return?
Context
Written as the kick-off provocation for a Hack for Sustainability Pitch Day; the same question is designed to transfer to a community garden, a street, a river.
Languages
English · 中文 · Latina — one visible at a time, switched in place.
