THE SITE场址

FUNCTION功能
The reference unit itself — a 100 MW / 400 MWh four-hour front-of-meter project, roughly 80 containers. Every share below is measured against this.
COST成本
Turnkey benchmark $117–125/kWh globally, excluding tariffs. Spread: China EPC $90–130/kWh · Europe $180–260/kWh · US $230–320/kWh.
CAPITAL资本
The same object costs two to three times more depending which side of a trade border it is assembled on.

GRID CONNECTION & TRANSFORMER并网与变压器

FUNCTION功能
MV switchgear, step-up transformer, civils, permitting, interconnection study. Without it the other ten layers are an expensive shed.
COST成本
Balance of plant and soft costs are 40–55% of total project cost — the largest share, and the one no headline quotes. Equipment ≈ $75/kWh; installation and connection add ≈ $50 more outside China.
CAPITAL资本
A queue rather than a price. High-voltage order books stretch years out. Grid investment rose 17% to $483B in 2025 — transformers are rationed by factory capacity, not capital.

THE ENCLOSURE箱体

FUNCTION功能
20-foot pre-commissioned container, 40–60 t, 4–6 MWh, €1–2M. Makes a chemical plant into a shipping unit.
COST成本
Modest itself, decisive elsewhere — factory-assembling PCS, BMS and cooling into one pre-tested 1500V unit removes on-site MV terminations, crane hours and SCADA delays.
CAPITAL资本
Standardisation is the real cost curve; the cell price gets the headlines.

THERMAL MANAGEMENT热管理

FUNCTION功能
Liquid cooling loop, chillers, coolant plumbing. Holds cells in a narrow band so they fade 0.5–1% per year instead of far faster.
COST成本
5–10% of hardware.
CAPITAL资本
The highest-leverage cheap layer in the system. Round-trip efficiency runs 86–92%, and each point is worth about $12,000 per MWh over system life. A few percent of capex governs a fifth of lifetime revenue — bought on price.

FIRE DETECTION & SUPPRESSION消防与探测

FUNCTION功能
Gas detection, aerosol or water-mist suppression, deflagration venting, NFPA 855. Contains thermal runaway in one module instead of one site.
COST成本
A small line item.
CAPITAL资本
The permitting layer — where a project meets a fire marshal, a council and an insurer, priced as compliance rather than what buys public consent for the next hundred projects.

POWER CONVERSION SYSTEM变流系统

FUNCTION功能
Bidirectional inverters, DC protection. Converts DC chemistry into AC grid current and back, and increasingly provides frequency response, synthetic inertia and voltage support — the actual product.
COST成本
15–25% of hardware, the second-largest hardware line.
CAPITAL资本
Power electronics, not chemistry — a far less crowded investment story than the cell.

Cell monitoring, state estimation, dispatch optimisation against price signals. Decides when to buy and sell hours.

A rounding error in capex.

Determines almost all the revenue. Performance guarantees run 2–4% of capex to protect 10–15% of revenue. EMS quality, PCS efficiency and thermal design together govern the 40–55% of the cost stack nobody negotiates.

Series-parallel assembly, busbars, module fusing. Turns thousands of small cells into one addressable asset — roughly 30,000 cells per container.

THE CELL电芯

FUNCTION功能
Prismatic LFP — the electrochemistry. Everything above exists to keep this at the right temperature, voltage and state of charge.
COST成本
The layer that collapsed. Pack prices fell 8% in 2025 to a record $108/kWh, but stationary-storage packs fell 45% in one year to $70/kWh — the cheapest battery segment in the world, for the first time. Lowest observed LFP cell $36/kWh, pack $50/kWh; utility tenders cluster $55–75/kWh; China average pack $84/kWh. 6,000+ cycles.
CAPITAL资本
A quarter to a third of all-in capex, and already the most efficiently priced thing in the system. Negotiating cell price is the least useful thing a developer can do — and it is where nearly all public attention sits.

CATHODE正极

Lithium iron phosphate — the active material that sets the cell's voltage and capacity.
COST成本
Roughly 60% of cell material cost — the biggest material line inside the cell.
CAPITAL资本
China produced about 70% of the world's cathodes (2022), and LFP cell manufacturing is dominated by Chinese firms. Because cathode is expensive, there is real commercial pressure to diversify it, and money is moving: clean energy supply chain investment reached $127B in 2025, up 6%, led by battery manufacturing and materials.

Graphite, natural or synthetic — the counter-electrode where lithium is stored during charge.
COST成本
About 7% of cell cost.

And that is the problem. Because anode is cheap, there is almost no financial pressure to diversify it, so it hasn't been. China holds over 70% of the graphite supply chain and produces about 93% of anode active material; under 1% of uncoated spherical graphite sits outside China; analysts put Chinese dominance near 98% in H1 2026, with any real shift at least five years out. Export controls from December 2023; enhanced US-bound controls suspended only until 27 Nov 2026. US duties briefly pushed the import burden toward 200%; producers rerouted through Indonesia within weeks. US FEOC rules bite from January 2027. A layer worth 7% of a cell can stop a $400M project.

SEPARATOR & ELECTROLYTE隔膜与电解液

A polymer film thinner than a hair, and a lithium-salt solution. Keeps electrodes apart while letting ions through — the entire safety case of the cell is these two doing their job.
COST成本
Near-invisible in a cost model.
CAPITAL资本
China produced about 82% of electrolytes and 74% of separators (2022). The thinnest components are also the thinnest-diversified. Concentration risk scales inversely with line-item cost.

THE DEFLATION PARADOX通缩的悖论

A thin dollar figure is not automatically a thin buildout. In 2025 the world installed a record 112 GW / 307 GWh of storage, excluding pumped hydro, and BNEF forecasts 158 GW / 459 GWh for 2026 — a further 41% rise, achieved while solar and wind additions slowed. Ten-year additions grow about 23% annually to 2 TW / 7.3 TWh.

Storage is the one line where a small number is partly a triumph — priced down faster than it can be capitalised up.在这一行里,小数字本身就是一种成就——降价的速度超过了资本化的速度。

Co-located solar-plus-storage added 87 GW in 2025 at an average $57/MWh, while gas CCGT levelised cost rose 16% to an all-time-high $102/MWh: firmed renewables now beat new gas on price.

Then turn it: deflation in the cell layer does nothing for the layers that are not deflating. Transformers, interconnection studies, fire marshals, commissioning crews and separator plants do not fall 45% a year. The peel shows where the cost curve stops working.

Battery-grade lithium carbonate rebounded over 90% from a June trough near $8,100/tonne, on storage demand, low Chinese inventory and the CATL Jianxiawo suspension. Metal shocks didn't reach 2025 pack prices — absorbed by LFP adoption, contracts and hedging — but that absorption is finite.

THE READING结论

The cell is solved, and getting cheaper faster than anyone forecast. The assembly is not. Capital is not too thin for batteries in aggregate — it is misallocated within the object. Attention and money concentrate on the layer that is already efficiently priced and structurally sound, and thin out precisely as you move toward the layers that are cheap, invisible, geographically concentrated, queue-bound, and capable of stopping everything.
