Imbalance?
In the algorithm?
In our attention?

If you measure the world in volume, flow, intensity and exposure — are we watching the world itself, or the intensity of the information about it?

十个高曝光话题ten loud topics 其余的,仍在运转的世界the rest of the working world

01容器The Container

Station

The world sits in one container. Its capacity is attention.

When ESG, sustainability and carbon became hot, every conference and every report was full of them. Listen closely and much of it was sales, or consulting, or people on a stage describing work happening somewhere else. Meanwhile the people actually doing the work — deep in the heat of it — kept finding more problems, and said the least.

At a small gathering with friends I made a joke: notice that the ones talking everywhere are not, by the data, the protagonists. The protagonists are oil & gas, steel & cement. Have you heard from them? That is where it gets hard, and that is where attention and push are needed.

I am not saying there is too much noise. I am saying there is a crowding-out: a hot topic consumes capacity. A heavy-industry transition meant to deliver by 2035 can carry almost no signal in 2026 — and transitions do not arrive all at once when the date is reached.

The people doing the real work find more problems the deeper they go — and they say the least. Why this station exists

This page challenges no institution, consultancy or newsroom. It asks one thing: is the most different gift of AI that we can finally read the world with data, instead of reading whoever sells hardest and sounds loudest?

TOP 10Information Intensity, Top 10

Ten topics take most of the air in the container

Below is an indicative index (0–100, composed from public proxies for 2024–H1 2025: GDELT global news event and mention volume, Google Trends relative search interest, keyword mentions on listed-company earnings calls, agenda slots at major summits, and MeCCO media-coverage tracking). It measures exposure intensity, not importance.

01

Generative AI & foundation models

On every agenda since 2023; the largest single share of earnings-call and summit airtime
100
02

Geopolitics & armed conflict

Event-driven, sharp onset, slow decay
82
03

Elections & political personalities

2024 was a global election year; personalised narratives travel best
78
04

Rates, inflation & markets

High-frequency by construction — it refreshes daily, so it owns space
71
05

Chips & export controls

Amplified by, and amplifying, the AI story
58
06

Consumer-facing clean tech

EVs, solar, batteries — a product, a price, a picture
47
07

ESG & sustainability disclosure

Far below its 2021 peak; earnings-call mentions at multi-year lows
38
08

Extreme weather events

Pulsed: spikes during a disaster, gone within two weeks
34
09

Corporate net-zero pledges

The pledge is far more visible than the delivery curve
26
10

Digital assets

Price-driven attention, decoupled from any physical base
24

Method note: this is a reproducible construction, not a precise measurement. Anyone can recompute it with the keywords in section 06 on GDELT, Media Cloud and Google Trends and land on different absolute values — but the shape (the top three eating most of the air) holds across most windows.

The Reserved Corner

Same container: the ten heaviest, least-lit things in it

Here the unit changes to weight — physical scale in global emissions, energy or population terms — with a thin tick for exposure, its position on the index in section 02. The gap between the bar and the tick is the imbalance.

01

Cement & concrete

~7–8% of global CO₂; the second most-used substance on Earth after water
6
02

Crude steel & blast-furnace iron

~2.6 GtCO₂/yr, 7–9% of the global total; one reline locks in roughly 20 years
8
03

Oil & gas methane

~120 Mt CH₄/yr from energy; methane ≈30% of warming since industrialisation, much of it abatable at negative cost
5
04

Industrial process heat

About two-thirds of industrial energy use, much of it above 400°C — no consumer-grade answer exists
2
05

Grids, transmission & interconnection queues

~2,600 GW of generation and storage waiting in US queues alone (end-2023)
4
06

Ammonia & nitrogen fertiliser

~1.3–2% of global CO₂; it feeds close to half the planet
2
07

Shipping & aviation fuels

~5% of global CO₂ combined; fuel-switch decisions run on decade cycles
7
08

Cooling & refrigerants

Cooling electricity demand could near-triple by 2050; high-GWP HFCs stay off-agenda
3
09

Clean cooking access

Roughly 2.1–2.3 billion people still without it; millions of premature deaths a year
2
10

Tailings, water & critical minerals

The physical bill behind every clean-tech growth curve
3

The tick is exposure; the bar is weight. The consequence is not "unfair news" — it is that capital, talent and policy attention follow exposure. Diligence queues follow the hot word, graduates follow the hot word, ministers' calendars follow the hot word. By the time the weight must be handled, the available time has already been spent.

The Clock

The 2035 outcome is being decided in 2026

Heavy industry is not software. Its transition does not "go live" on a future date — it is locked in, or unlocked, at a series of quiet capital decision points. They are barely covered, and they set the physical facts of the next decade.

15–20 years

One campaign life of a blast furnace. A large share of global blast-furnace capacity reaches its reline decision this decade — and every reline is another twenty years locked in.

30–50 years

The asset life of a cement kiln line. Kilns being built today will likely still run in the 2060s.

5–10 years

From final investment decision to commissioning for a new heavy-industrial plant. To run in 2035, the FID has to happen in 2026–2030.

8–15 years

From permit to energisation for a transmission line. The pace of clean generation is ultimately bounded by this curve.

now

These windows are opening and closing — and they barely register on the index in section 02.

What a Protocol Can Do

When generation gets cheap, the scarce goods are verification and reserved space

AI drives the marginal cost of information toward zero. The imbalance will not self-correct — it accelerates: whatever is easiest to generate fills the container fastest. The real task is to make a mission-bearing protocol carry two duties: verification and reservation.

01 · Provenance

Every high-impact claim ships with its source, method, unit basis and timestamp. Not "do you trust it" but "can you check it". Content credentials and data lineage as the default, not a bonus.

02 · Recomputable

Indices and conclusions publish how they were built, so anyone can re-run them on the same public sources. Section 02 was written to that standard: the numbers are arguable, the shape is what deserves debate.

03 · An exposure quota

Reserve a fixed corner for topics that are long-horizon, high-impact and under-lit — not by algorithmic favour but by hard protocol quota. The corner need not be large; it must be un-crowdable.

04 · Rank by weight

Default ranking is not clicks but physical magnitude × lock-in duration × actionable window. Whoever's decision still binds in ten years belongs near the top.

05 · Cheap publishing for the doers

People go quiet because publishing is expensive — compliance, definitions, wording, risk. A protocol should push that cost toward zero and protect the person who posts.

06 · Watch the imbalance itself

Treat exposure ÷ weight as a metric to be tracked, published on a cadence, and openly revised. The imbalance is not a one-off finding; it is a condition that needs watching.
