English Chushu. The heat is supposed to stop today. It has not. The calendar is ahead of the weather, as usual. A duck leg, dried tangerine peel, ginger, a little rice wine. Steamed, not fried — nothing that adds more heat. Forty minutes, mostly waiting. The old custom is duck at Chushu. Nobody remembers why. Ate it with plain rice. Still warm out.

中文今天处暑。说是暑气止了。窗开着，没觉得。鸭腿一只，陈皮几片，姜。蒸着，不用管。老话说处暑吃鸭。也不知道为什么。吃完了还是热。
