A partnership between CSTA and AAAI, AI4K12 provides grade-band guidelines and free curricula for K-12 AI education. Over 1 million students reached. The "Five Big Ideas" (Perception, Representation, Learning, Natural Interaction, Societal Impact) are now a global benchmark.

China's national science competitions now include dedicated AI tracks for junior secondary students (ages 12–15). Schools in Shanghai and Shenzhen run in-school AI labs where students train classification models using local datasets. Linked to the national "AI Education Action Plan 2021."

MIT's Responsible AI for Social Empowerment (RAISE) initiative offers "Day of AI" — free, full-day AI curricula for high schools. Students examine real-world datasets, train models, and debate algorithmic bias. Used in 50+ US states and 40+ countries.

The UK's Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge and the BCS AI Olympiad engage 600,000+ secondary students annually in AI-adjacent problem solving. Top students advance to international olympiads, with some winning at IOI (International Olympiad in Informatics).

Google's Teachable Machine lets students train image/audio/pose classification models in a browser with zero code. Widely adopted in middle schools across Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa through programmes like Google CS First. Students have built tools detecting crop disease, sign language translation, and more.

Singapore's Ministry of Education partners with IMDA to embed AI literacy across all secondary schools. Students in Sec 3–4 (age 15–16) complete AI modules covering data, model building, and ethics. The AI Student League competitions have produced student models deployed in real public services.

An international STEM innovation competition for ages 13-18. The AI for Humanity track challenges students to design AI solutions for real global problems. Past winning teams have built systems for early flood detection, mental health triage, and agricultural yield optimisation.

Korea's Educational Research & Information Service ran a two-year pilot where 14–15 year olds co-designed AI tutors for their own learning gaps. Students used no-code ML tools and presented results to city education boards. The programme is now scaling nationally for 2025.

Funded by IDRC and SIDA, the AI for Development Africa programme has established secondary school innovation labs in Nigeria, Rwanda, and Kenya. Students aged 15–18 are training NLP models in local languages including Yoruba, Kinyarwanda, and Swahili — preserving and extending African linguistic heritage through AI.
