2017年秋，由在雲南認識的法國友人老鄧接待，從巴黎到中部農莊、南部尼斯與摩納哥港口，二十來天。 Autumn 2017, hosted by Lao Deng, the French friend he had met in Yunnan: from Paris to a farm in the centre, then Nice and the harbour of Monaco, some twenty days.

2015年，我在雲南畫了許多大境寫生，慢慢建立了自己的視覺和藝術感觀。其間認識一位法國友人，我們稱他為「老鄧」，他非常喜歡中國文化。後來2017年秋天我們到了法國寫生，他無償提供了一切便利，比如住宿、開車帶路等。我們從法國的北部巴黎，到中部老鄧的老家農莊，以及南部尼斯，還有摩納哥港口，經歷了20來天的深度寫生，全新的視覺，全新的語境，激活了整個畫面。法國的寫生筆頭開始鬆了，就如法國友人老鄧形容的：周的畫會飛！回國以後，我就一直追着法國的這種筆頭的鬆動往前走。 —— 周波《藝術自述》（2019）

In 2015 I painted many large-vista sketches in Yunnan and slowly built up my own way of seeing. There I met a French friend we call “Lao Deng”, who loves Chinese culture. In the autumn of 2017 we went to France to paint, and he provided everything for nothing: lodging, driving, guiding. From Paris in the north to his family farm in the centre, then Nice in the south and the harbour of Monaco, we spent some twenty days painting in depth. A new way of seeing and a new context brought the whole picture to life. In France my brush began to loosen; as Lao Deng put it, Zhou’s paintings can fly!
