You met the place before it knew what it would become.
I first came to Qingshan Village in 2015. Invited by the TNC China Water Fund team, I joined an onsite roundtable about water, land, and the possibilities ahead. At that time, Qingshan Village did not yet know what it would become. Neither did we.
2015 年，我第一次来到青山村。受 TNC 中国水基金团队邀请，参加了一场关于水、土地与未来可能性的圆桌讨论。那时的青山村，还不知道自己会变成什么。我们也不知道。
Over the following ten years, I returned more than thirty times — sometimes for one day, sometimes for two days and one night. I walked, listened, read, talked with people, and kept notes. These were not systematic research records. I was not trying to evaluate the village, extract a model, or prove that something had succeeded. I was simply returning.
此后十年，我又回到这里三十多次。我行走、倾听、阅读、与人交谈，也随手留下记录。这些不是系统性研究，我没有想去评价或提炼一种模式。我只是一次次回来。
Only after reopening the notebooks did I understand what had accumulated: not a conclusion about Qingshan Village, but a relationship with a place over time.
直到重新翻开笔记，我才意识到，积累下来的不是关于青山村的结论，而是人与一个地方在时间中形成的关系。

Village life begins mixing with creative practice — old houses find new use, a materials library settles among them, renovation continues quietly.

The water trust idea stabilizes into practice. Visitors start asking to learn from it — though Qingshan resists being called a "model."

A quieter year. Travel slows, but the water and the forest keep flowing without an audience — a good reminder of what returning is really for.
